DBT Informed Methods & Approaches to Media in Art Therapy
This three-part online, synchronous/live CE series for art therapists explores watercolor, alcohol inks, and gelli printing as DBT-informed processes for practicing and building mindfulness, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation. Participants will learn & experience practical art-based strategies, techniques, & clinically relevant interventions to support clients and mental wellness. Practicing Mindfulness
with Watercolor
- Describe three ways watercolor processes strengthen mindfulness, including present-moment awareness, non-judgment, and acceptance;
- Demonstrate two watercolor-based interventions designed to support mindfulness such color meditation & sensory-based grounding;
- Apply mindfulness principles to clinical practice by developing one watercolor-based intervention plan that supports client self-regulation and awareness.

Building Distress Tolerance through Alcohol Inks
- Describe three ways alcohol inks support distress tolerance, including increasing tolerance for uncertainty, reducing reactivity, and supporting present moment awareness;
- Demonstrate two alcohol ink–based interventions that help clients practice distress tolerance skills, such as urge awareness & paced response;
- Develop one clinically appropriate alcohol ink intervention plan that integrates distress tolerance skills.
Gelli Printing for
Emotional Regulation
- Learn how to use gelli printing to promote emotional expression & increased awareness of internal experiences;
- Demonstrate two techniques for using gelli printing to regulate emotions, such as layering & repetition;
- Develop one clinically appropriate gelli printing intervention plan that integrates emotional regulation skills.
